Tips for Making Flossing Easier When You Have Braces

Posted .

If you have braces, you most likely find flossing difficult. This is common because many people find it tough to work floss under and around the braces hardware. The good news is that flossing doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, our orthodontist, Dr. Michael Emanuel, has some tips that can help make flossing easier. Those tips are:

-Use a floss threader: A floss threader is a disposable loop-shaped tool that helps you thread floss through the small and tight-knit spaces of your smile and braces. You just thread the floss through the loop, pull the tool under and through the braces wire (hold one end of the floss), and pull the tool away so the floss escapes the loop. This puts the floss in the perfect position to clean between your teeth.

-Use a water flosser: A water flosser is a wand and reservoir. The wand sprays water out its tip at the specific pressure you desire. All you need to do is place the tip between the teeth and spray. This can also help you clean your braces hardware.

-Use waxed floss: Waxed floss is a great product when working in small spaces and tightly knit teeth. It’s best to use this floss so you can have a convenient flossing experience.
